Oh the shame, I stuck the Corsair H55 from my i5 6400 onto my R9 380X, and overclcoked it little balls off to 1200MHz core, 1650MHz memory (but I only benched at 1600 because I didn't have any RAM heatsinks, I have since order a hell of a lot of copper to make a custom faceplate) the card crushed, but the stock CPU let it down massively, The system tied with an i7 6700K overclocked to 4.7GHz, with his GPU at only 1035MHz for 3D mark Timespy, how disappointing, and since I replaced the CPU's cooler with a stock intel one, I can't push that CPU to the same 4.59GHz I did last time. If I had of known how close I was I would have ran it again with 1650 memory. I can't wait for my i7 7700k to arrive, not that I won't still push that little i5, I plan to break it at some point. I'm still so disappointed though.

for time spy you need a 6950x.

if you want a bench mark where you can win with gpu speed and a 4 core cpu i would recommend hwbot heaven. xtreme setting you should beat him easy, basic will be harder for you but you should still win. also on amd for dx11 benchmarks you can turn off tessalation in the driver to get a way higher score. you cant turn tess of for time spy though as it is not allowed.

Rig Specs:

Yes I am aware that top line users use it, it is however much less important for an R9 380X. I think I'd rather use one of my dual or quad Xeon servers over it anyways, moars cores moar bettur.

tbh for 3d mark the best thing to get that isnt £1,000+ is a r7 1700 none x, my 1800x beat my 5960x in fs physics :)

I don't really wanna buy AM4 yet, not only would I have to buy a new board, and B-die memory, but the teething issues are still rampant, to the point I might wait until AM4+ or Zen+ (I'm guessing they're one in the same). I might look at the dual socket Zen systems when they come out, given the price of 2nd hand LGA 2011 and LGA 2011-3 servers with low end chips, I could probably buy a brand new server with like 20 cores per CPU for the same cost, obviously AMD are gonna undercut Intel for the mid range dual socket server markets.

you can get a x99 soc champion from ocuk for £135 and a 12 core xeon off ebay for £175 then use your current ram :P the problem is with xeons and server cpus is they lack in frequency for the gpu tests. i have used dual e5 2670 for benching and they are ok, but not ideal.

5960x vs 1800x vs e5 2670 x2 in fs. look at the physics score :)

the 1800x is now pushing just over 23k since last bios update as well.

in 3d mark vantage it is much higher fps so

I prefer dual or quad Xeon set ups, for the same price almost I could get two 8 cores with a higher clock rate than the 12 core one, once doubled up there is more power, that is what I kinda like about the dual socket systems. It's often better to have two of the higher clocked, lower core count chips as you're still doubling the cores, and often even the bench marks can't use that many cores. My most powerful server is currently leased out for another 3 months now (it got extended a month) but I never bothered even uploading the score because with 4 10 core xeons, at only 2.4GHz, it was pretty bad. The latency introduced from massive core count, massive socket count systems isn't worth it at all. I'm sure if I stuck in two of the 6 core 3GHz+ plus models, it'd kick it's ass.

If it wasn't obvious from only have one CPU cooler, an i5 6400 and an R9 380X, I don't have oodles of money for all this lol. A lot of my money I spend on servers because it gives me a boner lol. Sure I love overclocking but nothing beats the drone of a rack. I however have been starting to sell them off, and moving towards paying for adulthood (car, mortgage, bills, education :( ) so maybe I can squeze in some LN2 stuff and an AM4 system, but my memory isn't B-die which is really important for Ryzen.

Yours faithfully
