Go with 8.1. There isn't much of a difference between it and 8.1 Pro, as far as I know (other than more admin-like stuff), so you'd probably be wasting money if you got 8.1 Pro.

There has been so much written aboutthis topic already. Windows 8.1 is superior in every way. When you avoid Modern UI, you still get the much improved File Explorer, Task manager, driver compatibility and several other nifty features.

If you want Media Center + DVD codec pack, it's 10$ add-on if you have the Pro.

You need to upgrade to Pro to get it if you don't have it.

Codecs? Really? There are just so many free options out there, all likely to be superior to the original. As for Media Center - does anyone even use it? (I apologize if they do)

What free DVD codec? Oh you mean the half ass, CPU intensive, battery killer, VLC one?

Or the paying ones that cost ~100$+
