What would you build with a gtx 1080ti with a budget of $1500-$2000 usd? Thank you for your help and ideas :).

Note:

I dont have a monitor and Im selling my pc with all the peripherals. It can be just the pc or the pc, monitor, mouse and keyboard. I just want to see what can I do with that budget and see in order to determine what peripherals to get based on that. Id say 2k is my limit including the peripherals if possible. For gaming.

Honestly this system is unbalanced.  its a 1440p monitor so the 1080 ti is way overpowered for now.  If you go with this you can get a 4k or 144Hz 1440p monitor later and it would run really well.  The CPU could easily be pushed up to 4.5Ghz and beyond

Then go buy it! Im on quite a similar system but with a custom loop and Asus RoG Swift 1440P and a slightly more dated 4790k - However the performance is great and the 1080 is strong enough to run most games at 4k 60FPS, ok some settings have to be dropped from ultra, but the experience is great. The rest of the time is spent maxed settings on 1440P gsync

I think I will, just need to sell my pc first, which wont be fast probably. And then I need my friend to go to the US and bring the parts to me hehehe. Thank you very much for the build.

This pc is the best IMO. Ryzen doesn't seem to be as good for gaming, and the other recommended 6700 sounds good but when you have 2K to burn, why not get the little performance increase in Kaby Lake?

Well I made 2x builds as I didnt know whether it was purely gaming or gaming + stuff, hence the second one labelled "pure gaming"

Also dont rule out Ryzen for gaming just yet - it's getting better, it just needs fast ram and a good bios

I came right up to the line with that build.  Fitting a 1080 ti, good monitor etc. meant I needed to save the $100ish on going back a generation to fit in the other good stuff

I know that I'm probably going to get a bit of hate for this, but I'd honestly wait for Vega, if you don't need the computer now/soon.  This is purely because you'll have about 200 dollars more wiggle-room in your budget if you want adaptive sync in your monitor if you go with an AMD card.  That was actually the deciding factor in my build.  Now, with that, you run the risk of having a lower-performing card, or some disappointment.

If you don't want to wait, at least wait on third-party 1080 ti cards instead of FO.

With that said, here's my recommended build:

About the build:

CPU: You could potentially go with a 7600k, 6700k, 6600k, etc. to save a bit of money, but if just recommend getting the best CPU for gaming, if for no other reason than so you can wait a bit longer to upgrade.

CPU Cooler: This is a well-reviewed cooler from a company that I have experience with, and all had been great -- including customer service, which I've had contact with a few times to see about the AM4 backplate.

Motherboard: I assumed that you'd want Wi-Fi, but this can obviously be tweaked to your personal needs ('twas the cheapest ATX Z270 board with Wi-Fi).

Memory: Memory price is rising, so this is a relatively good price for some nice-looking and fast RAM.

Storage: Lots of people would've gone with a full--SSD setup, but I was looking to save some money for other parts of the build.  If you want to sacrifice done capacity for speed, you do you.  Also, that may not be the best-performing SSD in your price range, I just don't have time to research that for you.

Video Card: 'Tis what you wanted, although, again, I'd wait for custom cards.

Case: Well-reviewed, pretty, fits your stuff.

Power supply: Good, well-reviewed power supply with more than enough juice.

Monitor: this card is way overkill for this monitor.  I'd recommend finding some more budget and getting a better one or waiting for Vega, but this is the best that fits the budget.

Keyboard: Cheapest mechanical keyboard.  I haven't researched it at all, so results may vary.

Mouse: According to Hardware Canucks, this is the best sub-$20 mouse, and I couldn't fit any more in the budget.

Overall, it needs some personalization or for you to give me a bit more info to really give you the best.  Also, for a full setup 1080 ti build, this budget is a bit constrictive, so the peripherals will suffer, along with storage (only a little on storage, though).

No! Do not get an i5 for a $2000 gaming rig using a 1080ti.

See the thread in my signature for why

Sorry, I've seen you have this discussion with other people before, it's just that I'm used to thinking that an i5 is enough, just like people told me when I joined this community.

I will try to remember it from now on.

Also, I know that we still haven't seen any benchmarks, but do you think the Ryzen r5 will be any different?

The R5 series will be roughly as good at gaming as the R7 series, when overclocked.  They probably will not overclock much higher than 100 MHz more than the R7 series.  This is because the Zen architecture and the Samsung/GloFo LPP+ process aren't great at clocking over 4 GHz (https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/ryzen-strictly-technical.2500572/).

Could you say that in the "I'm-not-a-IT-technician" language? Also called "English for dumb people"

Well ye that's what i'm trying to change, it was right for years, people told me to get i5 when I bought my i7 over 2 years ago (I wanted 5820k) I'm glad I did, most people running 4690k/4570k have upgraded already
