So yesterday I posted about the issues I was having regarding a USB overcurrent error - today I spoke with the vendor I purchased from and they have agreed to RMA the CPU.  When removing it, I cleaned the thermal compound and then looked at the pins.  And to my surprise, this one bent pin, just one is sitting there.  Not only is it bent but it looks like it is completely pushed over and seeing as the others are absolutely perfect, this to me signals that it is a manufacturing defect.

So as always - REMEMBER TO CHECK THE PINS ON YOUR CHIP AND BOARD!!

Ryzen 7 1700, brand new chip.  Should have really checked for it as soon as I put the CPU in the first time - No worries though, replacement is on it's way :)

That's cool, it's ashame when stuff like this happens. I remember having a problem with a phenom II x6 1055t CPU, had one pin out of alignment about 3 rows in, luckily it was a minor defect that I sorted out myself with a credit card to straighten it out again, chip still works fine. Last time I used it was when it used to be my testing rig, overclocked OK too, not a big overclock but still pretty nice considering I was only using a £20 air cooler that I got on sale :) - it's sitting in the attic now waiting for doomsday ie the rest of my computers and parts get wrecked somehow... hope that day never comes, but if it does at least I can see if that beast lives, lol.

I am looking for a ryzen board at the moment, thinking I may have to wait a bit longer to build as the boards I have my eye on are still waiting for stock. Not a problem though.

Hope you get your replacement CPU soon. I can't stand waiting for stuff.

If it wasn't too far bent over, I probably would have tried to bend it back, but as you can imagine with a chip worth over £300/$300 I didn't fancy taking the risk with it! :) I've gone for the Asus Prime X370 board, seems to be the only one with any real stock here in the UK, but it's a lovely board, can't wait to actually use it!

It should be here tomorrow, Scan is excellent with their service (I see you're from the UK too) so I'd thoroughly recommend them if you haven't yet purchased your components! I agree, the wait is the WOSRT part, especially as I've already built it up twice!

Yeah, I have had a few things from them in the past, they are OK. I mostly get my parts from Amazon, but may chnage that up a bit in the future.
