Laptop repair issue

Go to solution Solved by TimothyR,

Ok, I fixed it. The white latch had to slide in beneath the upper bank of pins. From there, it snapped into place.

What's the model? It might be worth hunting down the service manual to find out what the connector is.

As to putting it back, I think its the latch for the long connector in the pictures supplied. It might have broken off (I only remember those connectors just flipping upwards to allow the cable to be released) but depending on the model, I could be wrong. Try and align it with that connector and see if it can be clipped back into place. Observe any ridges or markings that might allow it to be put back.

It's a Lenovo Y40-80. I did some checking, and it looks like that's the keyboard ribbon connector.

Do you by any chance know which way is up on the latch? I've tried both ways and it doesn't seem right either way.

I'm not entirely sure since I don't have much experience with ribbon cables. But it looks like the latch that holds it down, and shouldn't have been removed. So... Maybe remove the ribbon cable, insert the white thingy (probably the comb texture should be aligned with the pins) and plug the ribbon cable back in?
