So i'm reserching some possible upgrades for a friends asus a73e laptop. He wants to play a game with a cpu speed of at least 2.8 Ghz but his laptop has a core i7-2630qm with a clockspeed of 2.0 Ghz, so he wants an upgrade. my question is can i even install a new cpu into his laptop and if so one with a base of 2.8 ghz or one with a turbo of over 2.8? Thanks, Red

i wasnt able to find info on the upgrades options for the cpu but most of the time the cpus in laptops are soldered down to the motherboard and can not be taken off. I would recomend getting a new laptop if possible

I double checked and that laptop can remove the CPU.

Here is the fastest CPU that can be added as confirmed by Intel staff:

Thanks for the help everyone!

Before you go buy a new CPU, can you tell us what game it is at least? Game system requirements are often less specific than they appear, and not so reliable that you can decide based on a few hundred MHz if you can play or not. Maybe an i7-2630QM at 2 GHz is plenty for the game in question.
