First time buying a Pc

If it was me I'd buy a 4k HDR GSync monitor, two 1080 Ti in SLI, and a 7700k with 32GB of RAM on that kind of budget. This is the system I would build for myself  on that budget. The monitor is supposed to be released by the end of the month, and is the first HDR GSync monitor I believe. I threw in a liquid cooler because of looks, RAM compatibility, and since it's crazy to not overclock a little at least when running a really high end gaming system.

Why 32 gigs other ram instead of just 16? Also the store page doesn't have it at g-sync but amd free sync.

I think I've decided on getting a 6900 if you guys could provide build on that it would help.

Shit you're right, that's not a GSync monitor. I guess I'd wait for the HDR GSync 4k monitors to get released before doing this build. Two are supposed to release in Q2 for around $1200.

The i7-6900k is a terrible value, truly horrific. If you want a cpu with lots of cores for workstation apps the R7 1700 with an overclock to 4 GHz is basically the same performance at 1/3 the price. If you want gaming performance the i7-7700k at 1/3 the price is significantly faster. The i7-6900k is in a complete no man's land in the market and is a huge waste of money.

I get that it's not as good of a value. Everyone here seams to tell me that even though I said I was looking for Intel. R7 doesn't look like it handles  games as well and still needs to be fixed so I'll just get the next best thing for Intel. I'd rather stick with what works and something I can overclock. I work my a lot so i only get pockets of playtime. I dont want to have to adjust the settings for each game everytime I load to play. Also as long as Intel doesn't stay lazy the r7 will force them to get off their butt and compete. So I'll probably get an Intel later anyway.

Also what about doing wifi? Is that built into the motherboard or do I have a get another part. I'll be hard lined most of the time but I cart my crap , friends places sometimes for work.

You should go with Z270 then and say to hell with X99. No X99 cpu is going to touch the much cheaper i7-7700k in gaming, and with consoles stuck on weak octacores until around 2020 or so I doubt you're going to see many games optimized for anything higher than consumer level quadcore i7 before 2021 or so. It's not like the i7-7700k is going to be crap for workstation use, it just won't compare to the i7-6900k or R7 1700 if you're doing lots of cpu bound work that scales across a lot of cores. But there is no silver bullet that's going to be optimal for both gaming and workstation use until  perhaps when Intel's Skylake-X launches (rumored for August).

OK so amd for now but Intel if I'm going to overclock now and what would I get for the overclocked Intel? Do motherboards only take Ether amd or Intel? The plan was to buy the parts in a couple weeks. Also what are nm and cores?

nm means how big the transistor is, usually more is better. The cores are how many what I would describe as individual processing units in a CPU.
