I think you've got an older generation of RAM.

What does it say on the label of the RAM? (DDR1/2/3/4?)

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Yeah, that's probably the issue! 1151 socket uses DDR4, anything before is usually DDR3, DDR2 etc

It has compatibility with DDR3, but for most desktop boards they use DDR4.

But here's a Socket 1151 board with DDR3 support: http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z170-HD3-DDR3-rev-10

Yup, One of the computers I built for a customer years ago had 2x DDR2 and 2x DDR3 memory slots, fun stuff.
