CyanogenMod Installer root?

so i just went through the installer on my Nexus7. it was super easy and im now running cyanogen. 

 

BUT, is my device rooted? can i take full advantage of root features? or did i simply just flash a rom and avoid a root.

I didn't think you could install a ROM without rooting your phone. I don't really know too much about mobile software though but that's what I thought.

ive heard that you can sometimes flash a rom without rooting.

Your contacts by gmail and I don't know about your apps, but I reinstalled all of the apps I need took 30 mins

i only had a few pictures and i just put them on Drive. 

 

just checked the Terminal and YES i do have root access.

use titanium back up or a full system back up when you have rooted your phone, (do the full backup in the recovery)

then use nandroid to find contacts inside the backup you just made, then go and click "restore app data" should get what you want

Your games don't save, so you could back them up

you will have fun with that, go and get Pimp My Rom, Greenify, Clockwork Mod, Adblock, Kernel Tuner, and Xposed installer, it's insane the amount of stuff I have done with my phone, it's insanely fast and it looks baller

but when you run the installer it installs the rom you can't get on the phone to back up from what I have been told I want the lazy mans cyanogenmod install :3 

don't know what to do in your case, even so, installing it the "hard way" is still easy.

I'd first unlock and root your phone so you can do what I said above, then get the installer, bam you get all you ever wanted

I wish I could install cyanogen mod but no000oooo0o google has to make kit kat unrootable and it just so happens the nexus 5 comes with kit kat :'(

oh I also forgot SD Maid, Disk Digger, and Clean Master those are some really good ones especially Clean Master I use that one ritually to clean ram and useless data, but SD Maid is better for more thorough removing of useless files

lol I don't have the phone yet nor have I ever owned an android so I don't exactly know what I have. All I know is I wanted to root it.

what about just backing up contacts I also heard google can back up your device apps up and they will reinstall where they were but I would not have the save games or something like that

No I mean like when you get a new phone and your google account knows what apps you had and reinstalls them but you lose the data I saw it on an SJP video for the LG G2

yeah it does that, it's called google play being awesome

now then, it won't have all your app data, so that's why I'm telling you to back them up so you can save them

I don't mind the only thing I want backed up are the contacts can I save them to the SD card before using this installer without being rooted?
