DONT BUY 7TH GEN

Its overpriced right now, and the performance benefit isnt worth the extra cost, and can be beaten with some light OC

For gaming, i say 6600K

For content creation, 6700K

Do you want to know the difference or do you want to know a cheap one you can buy?

Both would be preferable because i would like to learn about my computer rather than just have people giving me cheap parts, but if you can explain the difference and you can offer a cheap part i would be very greatful!!!

Iirc the only differences are 7th gen oc a bit better, you can watch 4k netflix on 7 gen (lol), and there sprob stuff I dont know but I know its a pretty small gap but normally worth the 20ish dollar price gap there normally is. As for a cheap CPU I'd say one of the older pentiums but at that point you are looking at a 60-80 dollar price gap if you are using a z170 so unless you were using a z270 just get the 6th gen. (6700k/6600k depending on budget)

Thank you but im using the h110a/m.2 motherboard which is incompatible with the 7th gen processors until you upgrade it with a 6th grn cpu.

yes, you would need a kaby board for that. see some cheap b250 maybe? price difference isn't much

Thats what I said at the end although I assumed you were using a Z but its an H, same story though. Did you already buy a kaby lake? If not get a 6700k/6600k.  (even though your mobo doesnt support oc, they always run at higher speeds than their locked counterparts, unless you wanna save money) If you did than a skylake pentium would be sufficient.

You could also just use the pentium for that and return it... (Yes, I'm one of those people)

Hi there I would just like to know the diference between a 6th gen cpu and a 7th gen cpu because I need to buy a cheap 6th gen cpu to upgrade my bios so i can use my 7th gen cpu. thanks

I don't understand

why would you need to by a Skylake?!?! shops should offer services for BIOS updates

and that can be a non-issue if you buy a 200 series mobos

Aint nothin wrong with that but i live in a location where we dont have any electronic stores around so i cant just buy one upgrade the bios to be conpatible with my i5 kaby lake and then just return the other one so im just going to sell it second hand on trade me (nz buy and sell website)

if you need a CPU just for the bios update, go with the cheapest you can find, like a celeron or pentium, the cheapest I can find is the Intel Celeron G3930.

Thank you! but i plan on getting an i3 and selling it to some lucky person because i like being able to offer nice things for cheap to people that cant really afford it at the original price at the time.

which i5 kaby lake did you get? if you got the 7600K then you don't want to waste it on a h110 board, since you can't OC on that board and no point in paying the price premium for a K chip when you can't OC.
