Disable hyperthreads

I heard that games based on the half-life 2 engine have a bad time with "fake" cores. (image down below)

I tried to disable my *fake* cores but I don't see where I can disable this feature. My processor is an intel i7 4710HQ and my laptop is the 2PE leopard. (dont know if this wil help)

There should be an option in the BIOS to disable hyperthreading if you really need to.

One, they aren't "fake cores" they are threads. If you used one "fake core" it's performance would be equal to one "real core", just not if you used them at the same time. 

 

Also, I'm pretty sure source doesn't have major issues with smt (source: I play csgo with my 6700k). Could you link the video?

There shouldn't be a lot of difference but if you still want to disable hyperthreading look in BIOS for SMT, HTT, HT or other possible names for HT, though as you're using a laptop who knows what options are available.

I am booting into my bios but I am not able to disable any of those settings, I cant even touch the MHz

Of course you can't change the speed, and what does that have to do with what we're trying to do here? I still don't think you should do this (because you are loosing performance), but there should be an option in some menu labled "CPU technologies" or something.

Laptop bioses are usually pretty shit, but they should have that option somewhere.

I don't see that option anywhere in the BIOS.

Maybe under the 'system information' tab, although I doubt it.

 

it's possible that because of the badly designed BIOS on your laptop it's not possible to disable hyperthreading.

I agree. Try looking under every submenu available.

To add to those above me, bios menus don't make sense lots of the time so I would definetly look through all submenus.

So this is the only thing which is close to looking like where I want to get to, but I am not able to edit any of these boxes
