Why do people say that mixing different ram on motherboards with 4 ram slots is ok but not on motherboards with 2 slots?

now for a more serious answer they are most likely saying this because they want to utilize dual channel so you could use 2 dual channel kits on a 4 slot but you could only fit 1 kit in in a board with 2 the kits have ram that are paired to work optimally together and they feel they will get a large performance drop if you mix ram within the same dual channel slots though from my experience its pretty much negligible
