I'm looking for a camera for videos, potentially Vlogs, and also photography. I have been looking at a lot of mirrorless cameras, but I'm concerned with the video quality on some of them. I am looking at Sony a5000, but I do not know anything about Sony cameras, since I have been surrounded by Canon and Nikon. Which leads me to say i am also looking at the Canon EOS M10. Just wondering what comments people had on these two cameras, any reason to pick one over the other..

Unless things have changed since the last time I looked, Canon is very behind in the mirrorless game. I'd look elsewhere.

Are you looking for a smaller camera?

For the most part, not really interested in a DSLR

Without some kind of budget it's virtually impossible to offer helpful advice. You also haven't listed a location.

Up to $500, and US

Honestly I wouldn't get the Sony a5000 now. I own one myself, I like it for photos, its tiny, but I find the video options limiting and its also getting a bit old. (Im currently looking for a new one).

The Sony one in your price range I would reccomend would be the a5100. This one has the internal features of the a6000 pretty much. This one is better suited for all things as it has better AF and things like that.

You could look at Fujifilm and Panasonic cameras too. I'd strongly reccomend the Panasonic G7. Its a very popular mirrorless option. The downside on it compared to Sony and fujifilm would be the smaller sensor

Would you be willing to look at used cameras?

Why not a DSLR? you could get an eos 60d or 700d used and it would probably serve you better than any csc you could find.

He stated he preffered a very small body. And tbh a 60D is getting old. A Panasonic G7 fits his budget and requierments better. Small body, good video features, under 500US.

[EDIT]

Just realised the G7 is was a bit more expensive in the US. (I could find a good deal here in Sweden for just above 500US) In the US its 600US with a kit lens.

Also is the 60D's vide AF really that great? Its probably a decent camera for stills but its really from the beginning of when DSLR's started doing video somewhat decently.

in video AF is better than any csc you can get for 500 bucks. Also, what about the 700d? its quite better performing in 1080p and its not that big. You also get much better battery life, cheaper lenses yada yada yada, we talked about this a million times by now. I'm not saying OP should go that route, I'm just saying it shouldn't be discarded that easily.

I agree, the G7 would be great, if you disregard the mft sensor. Best I can think of at that price is a used a6000, but as you know, I'm not a fan.

OP, why the m10? why not the m3? it shouldn't be more than 500$.

I can agree on the 700D, however I think the 60D is getting a bit too old, 7 years now. The sensor is way behind the new cameras. The 700D is a pretty good option though.

i'd guess the G7 and a6000 being quite similar in performance. I did reccomend the a5100 if he wants something reaaally small. It has the guts of the a6000 but lacks in control and those things. Which for me is a major downside but its a lot cheaper instead.

If something really small is required, then why not a g7xii? it should be around 500$. If not, that small then what? and why? what does OP need to film? how small does it have to be? Should it fit in a pocket? The G7 is better than the a6000, with the exception of the smaller mft sensor.

The a5100 is as small an ilc you can get, the question is, should you? especially if you could afford an a6000 or canon m3.

Thats the question, but OP have been kind of a "no show". So I guess we have to wait for some more info.
