Making a new build, no plans to build around this time, probably around late June/August

1. Budget & Location

Around $1400, shipping and taxes here costs too much, so I'll be buying the parts locally. Most of the prices here matches the parts' MSRP with some price markup, ex: 6700k here costs $360 with its $350 msrp ( sorry if this is confusing )

2. Aim

primarily using software like After effects, Blender and Photoshop. Likely to expand to softwares like Unity and 3DsMax in the future.

I want to game on this rig, but I don't really need a "top of the line" graphics in games, just something decent and has good performance for the money

3. Monitors

currently, one monitor is enough, would add more in the future, I'll stick with 1080p in the meantime, would consider a 1440p

4. Peripherals

yes, any keyboard and mouse would work fine

don't need flashy peripherals, just something that just works

5. Why are you upgrading?

currently using a laptop, need some horsepower to run demanding softwares

parts considered build thus far

Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Window, MasterCase 5 Pro, NZXT s340, Corsair 400c

Power Supply: Corsair RMx 850W, Seasonic S12G 750W

CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 1700

Cooler: Stock Wraith Spire Cooler
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LED,Corsair Vengeance LPX (both 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & SSD Seagate 2TB SSHD
Video Card: XFX RX 480 8GB GTR
Monitor: LG 23MP68VQ-P

PCPartPicker build I just made : https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Rn8DKZ

I feel that this build needs to be heavily modified, let me know if there's something better I need to change

Extra stuff I'd love to know :

Corsair LED costs 6$ more than the Corsair LPX is it worth it?

Are the difference between a SSHD and HDD noticable?

Is it worth going overkill with the PSU?

Should I stick with stock wraith cooler or get another CPU cooler?

Thanks in advance

1) That's on you, if you prefer LED"s then sure.

2) What will you be using it for? 90% of the time I'd just stick with an HDD + SSD. faster and does what needs to be done.

3) It might last longer, but you have a 10yr warranty anyway. you could lower the wattage to 550-650w if you feel its overpriced and that would suit your build perfectly fine.

4) The stock Wraith spire coolers performs rather well actually, its extremely quiet and leaves a bit of room for temp increase while overclocking. I'd keep it.

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

2. I'll use SSD to keep softwares I frequently use and HDD for video clips, music, games, etc.

3. got it, while we're on the subject of PSUs, would full modular PSU have any affect to the PC?

Stick with SSD +HDD then

All it does is give you the ability to disconnect cables you don't need to use and make things look cleaner inside your case. Generally you won't find non-modular unless its the budget area.

I got a few questions about the RAM :

1. I've been out of the loop about the RAM issues with ryzen motherboards, and it said it could only contain 2666 MHz DDR4 memory, would this be expanded in the future?

2. The Height of the Corsair LED is higher than the LPX, would this cause some problems in the future?

I doubt that a hybrid hdd will offer any significant performance improvement if the drive is used primarily for data/content. The ssd portion is only 8GB and generally the access pattern of a data drive is rather evenly distributed.

Buy the largest ssd that fits in the budget. Designating an ssd as an Adobe cache drive will improve its performance. As will being able to store an in-progress project or two on the drive.

An 850W psu seems far too large. Something around 550W should offer enough of a cushion.

The only issue with tall memory modules is the possible interference with a large air tower cpu cooler. The stock cooler does not overhang the memory area. Nor would an AIO.

One can use faster memory than spec. And, speeds do seem to matter. http://www.legitreviews.com/ddr4-memory-scaling-amd-am4-platform-best-memory-kit-amd-ryzen-cpus_192259 studies the issue.

Yes it would be expanded as new bios updates are released. I'm fairly sure it already works with 2666mhz as long as you only have 2 sticks.

2. The Height of the Corsair LED is higher than the LPX, would this cause some problems in the future?

That depends if you want to upgrade your cooler or not.

I thought about that too

the primary reason I opt for the 850W power supply is that the cheapest one I found in to be fully modular

and the Corsair RMx s only have a few gap in price, around an additional $10 for the 850W variant over the 650W one

I just found out a cheaper alterntive the CS750M for $125 compared to $160 for the RM850x

Any suggestion?

No, keep the  RMX. If you can find something like an EVGA G2/G3 for cheaper get that, otherwise keep it

If you don't mind,

Can you explain the difference between a B350 and a X370 motherboard?

I don't need anything too specific, just some general guidelines

Both can overclock, B350 occasionally supports Crossfire, X370 supports both SLI + Crossfire, X370 has more PCIe lanes or something, but you shouldn't worry about that unless you're actually planning to SLI/CF.

tl;dr If you're going to just going to use a single graphics card buy a B350.

You could get a 550W Power Supply, that is plenty for your Rig.

getting the x370 in case I need to upgrade in the future

I thought an additional 20 bucks for 850W and make it more 'futureproof' makes it a good deal, but I still have doubts with that idea.

You can. But 700W is future Proof too. The GTX 1080 ti = 250W x 2 = 500W + 93W (I7-7700K) = 593W

But i remember Linus saying that your power supply should use at least 10% (850W x 0,10 = 85W)

so a bigger power supply eats up more power than the lower ones?

No. But if it is too big it may operate slightly less efficiently. They also tend to cost more. Or, they cost as much as a better quality, lower capacity psu.
