Steam on External HDD?

Good evening to you all, I have been running low on internal memory space on my internal hard drive. I have noted that most of this space is being taken up by my steam library, therefore I was wondering the impact it would have on the games should I move it over to an external HDD. I know that it boot slower but would it affect the gameplay itself, say should I want to record it?

You can try it for 1 game and see. Loading screens will be slower imo

Right click on the game,properties,local files,move install folder
