So I am upgrading my PC, specifically I am upgrading my mobo, CPU, cooling system, ram, and, case. I am currently just waiting on the ram to finish the up upgrade. My big question is what will I have to do when transferring my HDD and SSD over. I have my windows key and the USB stick to install windows if I need to re-install it, will this work? I also looked at this site https://www.howtogeek.com/226510/how-to-use-your-free-windows-10-license-after-changing-your-pc’s-hardware/ and it says I can use my Microsoft account to transfer it. Which way would be better and do they work. Also other than just getting windows transferred I want to know do I need to do anything special for the data on the HDD and SSD. For example, will I need to re-install my programs and games. I would really like any information you have thank you.

I just migrated my father's drives to a new build. 9 times out of 10 it works perfectly fine and you can pick up where you left off.

Windows keys are now primarily controlled through your Microsoft account, meaning if you are the administrative user and use your account that has previously had another computer where you are the administrative user, the key will transfer over through your account. Migrating the drives pretty much does the same thing, so no problems there.

If there are any problems I will be more than happy to help. Just tag me.

EDIT: All your information will be just how you left it in the old system.

So to be clear do I need to use my win10 USB or do I just need to plug my HDD and SSD in the same way I had them in the old computer

@FAQBytes

Just plug them into the new computer just like you had them. Make sure the SSD is plugged into a SATA III port for the best performance. You shouldn't need the USB, but keep it around just in case.
