Hi guys,

I need help in vertically mounting a Zotac gtx 1070 amp Extreme or an Asus gtx 1070 Strix on my case(Omega X1)http://jdmcomputer.com/?product=omega-x1-rgb-tempered-glass-case

This case does not have any vertical gpu mounting slot.

I've seen a lot of videos that they tried to cut out the gpu slots and mounted the gpu vertically but im wondering if Zotac gtx 1070 amp Extreme or an Asus gtx 1070 Strix can withstand the pressure with just the tip of the gpu(or the IO of the gpu... i dont know how to call it) supporting the the whole gpu weight. I really want to buy the amp edition but i really dont like its back plate and the lights are too good to face downward. As for Asus strix, i really like the fan part of the gpu as well as it's rgb lighting that it also sucks if it just faces downward.

I attached my build and is hoping you guys got some great ideas!

Thanks!

btw there's a lot of lights on my case because the glass is tinted ^_^

you do not need the mount at the end of the gpu, its only for reassurance that it won't fall and break off

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

should i just imitate these below?

can they reallly support the whole weight of the gpu? specially this big ass GPU!

i never knew that type of verticle mounting was a thing..

but, it should be able to support the gpu. if it couldn't, why would the manufacturer release that card to the public? it would have backlash and there would be lots of posts and news about it, but no. thats not a thing in this reality :)

i have a zotac 1070, and am running it normally and its working fine with minimal sagging.

sorry for bad photo, i have a really bad angle with this.. :/

no back plate on mine, but this is a regular zotac 1070 (no amp, extreme, mini, just a regular piece of shit)

bracket is a thing, and the PCB is black

If the bracket portion of the card is mounted it should do a good job of helping to support the weight much more so than normally particularly, if you can get the bottom portion of said bracket mounted in some way. Its a much more stable position for the card as its weight is pulled down which aligns with your mounting as opposed to perpendicular to it as it normally is. (Think of it like holding a book by the two points on the spine vertically and horizontally, which is easier to keep stable?).  To mount the bottom of the card bracket, you could probably drill a hole in a spare bracket and screw the bottom of the card bracket into that but just having something it can push against will probably be enough.

You want the bracket part of the card to be well mounted; if only because as you increase the distance from any given mounting point the torque on said point increases significantly. (I think its at a rate of x^2 as distance increases if I remember my physics properly.) But the bracket itself is pretty strong.

i think i need to buy one of those modular io brackets to install the gpu vertically. The next problem is, what should i use to support the other end of my gpu. I dont think the structure itself can withstand it's weight(that is why other gpus are sagging)

The card since it's bolted at the top, it can support itself but you will want to make sure the bracket it securely fastened to the case itself.
