Calling all computer technicians!

Hi guys. 

 

 

I have a question for all you other Computer Technicians. 

 

How much do you guys make an hour at your jobs? I personally make minimum wage. Should i ask for a raise? I run a store and work on usually 20+ computers at any given time. I think i should get a raise. I just don't know if i'm sounding too entitled? One other thing I do a school Co-Op where i work, and then i work there after school. If that means anything.

 

So yeah what do you guys think?

I'd say yes, having to work on more than 5 computers at once can be troublesome and with you working on 20+ at once you should be making more than minium wage. Another reason you could say that you should have a raise is that you have an ability that many others do not, so you should be paid more than someone who puts pipes or wood together.

In Lithuania they give 10k LT for programmers . But im still in school so i dont work but i know that they get a lot of moneys

I currently get paid $9.60 an hour. Which is student minimum wage in Ontario. Like i know that's a good amount of money. However i had another job where i worked more hours that i cut back to weekend for this job... That job was paying me more but i worked more hours. I only work between 12-20 hours a week here... So yeah... Also i started working here about a month and a half ago...

My grandfather and uncle and dad all work in construction and it is not easy work I know form experience from being in it most of my high school and earlier. so I wouldnt really put them down for knowing how to work with their hands. 

I don't mean that people who know how to work on houses and are architects should be put down, but rather the person that drops out of high school shouldn't make as much money (minimum wage) as someone who has actually learned a skill. Working on a computer isn't really hard, but it does take time to learn how to do it properly. Again putting bolts on a sink in a kitchen isn't really that hard to do.

I went into the job with quite a bit of prior knowledge. However i couldn't really run the store by myself. Now i've gotten to the point where he trusts that i have enough knowledge to run his store. So I wonder, should i be getting more? I feel like i should. Maybe it's just the money hungry side of me. I really do love my job, and i am happy getting to do what i love. However my time is worth a lot to me, and my gaming computer is collecting dust because i have two jobs, and i'm working so much. I'd like to make enough money at this job to be able to quit my second job but i just don't know...

Ah I see where you are coming from now. Still though being a carpenter takes skill. You wouldnt think putting a roof on a house or finishing drywall would be hard work but I still have respect for those people even though they may have dropped out of school. If they are a damn good worker and are good at what they do they should have pay to reflect that.

I don't know your employer, but if you ask the worst thing he/she could do is say "no". I'd ask and if he gives you a dollar more than worth it.

Maybe explain why you want a raise. Having multiple jobs is very taxing, could try and appeal to him that way.

He knows i work two jobs, he thinks i'm crazy for it. I think the thing with him is that he knows i need money, because i always want the latest and greatest. I'll try today when i go into work.

Sure if you've made him a lot of money throughout that time there and as long as he likes you, you should be fine.

I wouldnt ask him now only working there for a month may upset him. Like I said he may only be paying you because it is a co-op position instead of just doing an internship.

No like i do Co-op through my Highschool starting at 11AM My co-op goes until 3PM i don't get paid for this. I'm getting school credits between this time. From the hours between 3PM and 6PM i am an Employee. My co-op started september 20th, i got hired as an employee October like 10th.

Sir/ Mam I have two jobs and I was hoping to drop the second one, but  I can't do it at my current pay. Could I have a raise to try and supplement the lost pay. I really like this job but I can't continue both.
