In a few days i'll be getting a Seasonic X Series 1050w fully modular power supply. Does anyone know for sure if the modular cables from the Seasonic X Series x650w will work fine?

First question, why are you upgrading to 1050w? You probably don't need the wattage unless you have like 3 card SLI/Xfire. But I believe the cables will work fine with it.

If they are standard connectors they will work, but I think you will get cables included with the new one...

Anyway: Why are you btw upgrading? Could you tell us some more about your rig maybe? :)

Most of the time over 750W is just not necessary...

You would defenitely want to check how much power you are using with this website.

Hope this helped,

Wow, this forum moves quickly! I had an issue where i purchased a PSU before i thought i would getting another GTX 770. I'm running SLI with my i5 2500k overclocked to 4.2mhz. I have 6 case fans, two mechanical hard drives, and an SSD. I believed that the x650 would be fine, but i knew it would be close. The difference in prices between the x850, and 1050 are close enough that i decided to go for the big one.

If the cables work. (which i don't see why they wouldn't) i won't have to redo my cabling. :lol:

@Dnoble24

Which Seasonic X 650w do you have? There's the SS-650KM version and there's the SS-650KM3 version. You can check this by looking at the label. There's a little 3 next to the SS-650KM model, if you go the newer KM3 design. You could also tell the difference just by looking at the internals through the honeycomb grill and the indention of the fan grill on the KM3 model. Also, this is assuming you aren't getting confused mixed up with the SS-660KM (which may be different...I'm not going to verified right now).

Scroll down to the image of the modular interface.

Look closely at the CPU / PCIE of each of the 650w. The 650KM uses a 12 pin connection at the modular interface while the 650KM3 unit has an 8 pin connection. The shape of pins is at a different layout as well.

The pin-out of the 1050XM looks more similar to the older 650KM design.

Quite honestly, both of the 650w units are of high-quality and is capable of powering two 770, so you don't need to upgrade, TBH.

Thanks a lot for that. I have the 650KM. The pinouts and connections look the same as the 1050. I was more worried about the pins being grounded differently, or something strange like that. Looks like i won't have to cut my 8 zip ties. I'll make sure first though.

Well, if the pinouts are the same, then you don't have anything to worry about.

I don't have the data sheet for the pinouts, so I'm not going to assume base on the connectors alone. But I doubt that Seasonic would used the same connector type if the pinouts are different,  but you could attempt to verify this with Seasonic by asking for the pinout for both the SS-1050XM and SS-650KM. Otherwise, if you got a digital multimeter on hand, you could test the pin-outs of the connectors with the paper clip test to be 100% sure.

Thanks. Those photos really helped. I've been advised to use the cables that come with the PSU just to be certain because the connections are not completely the same between the two. I'll just rewire the whole thing to be certain. The possible complications aren't worth being a bit lazy.
