confused on this

I have a Asus STRIX 1060 6GB (non-overclocked version), and i've noticed that the card doesn't go above 660MHz on asus's GPU Tweak

 

But, when i check afterburner it will show it running up 1911MHz

 

Another thing is that, games like BF1, and GTA V will be running fine with 60+ FPS but at random times the game will drop down to the single digit number of frames.  

I don't know what's going on, i don't THINK it's CPU bottleneck. but if it is let me know

 

ALSOO, if anyone has had any stable OC's let me know!

Maybe it's just idling when you check it's usage?

 

check your CPU usage and GPU usage.

your CPU is pretty good though, so I don't see it being a CPU bottleneck.

ahh, i guess i messed up wait i was trying to say

 

the 660MHz also shows when i'm playing games. It's like the software doesn't seem to read it? 

Cpu temps have been in the 50-60 range for the most part.

 

Cpu usage doesn't go above 90% majority of the time.

GPU i'm not sure about.

What temp is your CPU hitting when your having this problems? Have real temp or open hardware monitor run in the background till you get the frame rate drop and have a look at what the peak temp was on your CPU and GPU

Get open hardware monitor, it will show you all the temps of your hardware if it is supported

i don't know. I can't have an quick look at it without tabbing of the game. but i haven't tried it yet.

Ok so leave that running in the background and run your games as normal and when you get the frame drop jump out of the game and see what the package max temp was and if it is over the threshold

Also are you running the latest drives on your computer? E.g gpu drives, chipset drives, bios version? Might be an issues with your MOBO

okay, so this is what i've got I saw CPU temps staying below 55 C and with the GPU only using 3.5GBish of Ram.

When it does lag, HWmonitor and afterburner show that the GPU and CPU speed drop to idle for a few seconds and then go back up together. GPU will go from 1911 to 608MHz.

your computer is under performing for the hardware you have specifically on the CPU, SSD AND HDD. it is showing high background CPU usage while the benchmark was running, where you doing anything CPU intensive while doing the benchmark?

no only thing that was open at the time was about 6-7 tab open in google chrome, spotify, and discord open at the time i believe.

i did some research and found that it maybe an issue with the pascal architecture and some games, things like CSGO, LOL, GTAV, etc, some games are fine but others it doesn't get along with. will keep looking but no one has found a solution so far
