i recently discovered that my corsair vengeance 1866 (DDR3) had been running 1333Mhz ever since i bought it. i quickly learned how to enable it's 1866Mhz XMP profile and it works fine. however i would like to overclock it further to 2133Mhz if at all possible. i have no experience with any type of memory overclocking and i wish to learn all that is need to accomplish my goal.

of course i already know increasing the core clock and voltage are key parts but the main thing that concerns me is how the timings play into it all.

i have already mingled with trying to overclock my memory myself. it didn't end well. i ended up getting in a black screen boot loop that ended in clearing cmos and having to reset my cpu overclock and reset my ssd as my boot drive. i think it is fairly obvious i would like to avoid this at all costs.

any and all legit advice is appreciated. video links are most helpful but i am willing to read detailed guides if linked.

it's only guaranteed to run at 1866 MHz. Anything beyond that is neither guaranteed or warranted.

With ^ said, your sistem runs on Z77, with a 3770K heavily overclocked. Also, you got 4 sticks of RAM, so probably you may not obtain even 2133 MHz...

First of all, set your RAM voltage to 1.65v and increase your timings by 1 (primary timings). E.g. if you're running 1866 9-9-9-27, set 2133 10-10-10-28. IIRC, on Z77 the "safe voltage" should be 1.5+/-5% that is 1.575v, but for my personal experience on the platform (years ago) you'll be fine for long.

Of course, those are guidelines and you should play with settings like these, and I won't be responsible of any damage to your hardware, but that's a given when overclocking or suggesting OC settings.

are you sure it is even worth overclocking it?

To those questioning if overclocking memory is a worthwhile think of it this way. if there is a potential to have your memory run 100Mhz+ faster, would you do what it took to get that extra speed? the answer for me is yes. to not is a waste. will it give amazing performance boosts? no. just like most overclocking you don't do it purely for the performance. you can also do it for the fun of it. it's sad that i have to explain this but there it is.
