Read my posts and the context in which I've written them and you both will understand what I'm trying to say here.

Uh. It does improve the speed at which you can find Mersenne Prime numbers.... I'm failing to see how it's "wasting" energy.

Seems if you bought that CPU used, it may have just poor IHS Thermal past at this point. Probably need a delliding.

I actually did buy it used. Bad tim might very well be the reason for all I know. I really don't want to delid it though. I never delidded a cpu before and I guess I'm screwed if something goes wrong...

If you're not paying attention to your CPU and are just letting it do it's thing, yes, those temps, while too high for comfort, are normal. If you are taking care of your CPU, however, then there's a problem, hence why each one of us is asking / suggesting difrerent things

I do care, thats why I asked.

Well, I really don't want to delid the 4770k, but it seems I have no other choice.

@Hunter259 @Pauleh @nerdslayer1 @Imakuni @PCGuy_5960 @Kommanche thanks for your answers and/or proposed advice guys, but all I asked for was somebody telling me wheter or not those temps are to be considered normal for a 4770k.

It's also hard to define normal temps. 4770Ks are notorious for poor IHS contact so the temperature range from an OK chip and a poor chip can be 20C!

Only way to solve this is to delid. Your temps are high so it seems like you might have a chip with poor IHS contact.
