ok this may be a very stupid question but i have 2x4 sticks of ram and was thinking of buying more (motherboard allows 4 sticks) but i don't want to spend a lot right now if i buy 1 8gb sticks and put it in with the 4 would it work or am i just dumb for not knowing this

Yes, it will still work as long as you are buying the correct RAM eg (DDR2 ,DDR3 or DDR4)

i have a z107a gaming pro carbon i have 2x4 sticks of Crucial  RAM (it's DDR4) planing on getting someKingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB

why use slower ram when ur mobo supports much higher frequency.

buy this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BYH48d/corsair-memory-cmk8gx4m2b3000c15 and get rid of the old ram..sell it on ebay or something. u will be much better off

the thing is i want 2x8 sticks at some point with the 2x4 i already have would it be better to have the 2x4 sticks you said or 1x8 stick with the DDR4-3000

You are not really going to see that much of difference about 2% difference.

there is little benefit in performance in some application if u use 2x instead of 1x. and no difference in gaming. but a higher frequency helps. so sure go for 1x8 stick..and buy another stick of the same model later.

I would say take out your Crucial RAM and rather go 2x8 kit Kingston HyperX Fury Black  it improve your Ram timing and it better ram pulse it a dollar 1.10 cheaper then buying 1 stick at time if your using part picker.

and yes they should work to gather with your Crucial RAM but the Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB will run slower because of the Crucial RAM.    .
