Been planning a build for awhile and since the 780 recently dropped in price I did some research. I was originally going to get the 780 Lightning but Newegg reviews and OCN Owner's Club members complained that the 780 Lightning uses Elipda memory modules, which have very bad overclocking capability. I had a brief look at the 780 Classified from EVGA, and in a certain number of cards Elipda memory modules were used to meet demands. Though EVGA Reps have said that they are using good OC'ing memory now (Samsung) it is still not 100% guaranteed you'll get Samsung memory - however Lightning's have never used Samsung, whereas you can get a Classified with Samsung.

If given the choice, which would you go for? I really do want to get the most out of the card, and I don't think the 780Ti is a good value in my opinion.

I would go with either of those. I really like ASUS Direct CUII cards, but EVGA has better warranty. Don't know much about MSI. I would recommend EVGA.

I've never really heard of Asus cards in respect to really good OC'ing, only noise levels. Some guys on OCN were able to get 1300-1400MHz in the core. On air. Holy jebbus.

If you are overclocking go with anything with samsungs but make sure you can get a full waterblock for it !

I like direct CU2 cards by asus though, they are really cool and work well

Well, that's what Im trying to figure out, will an EVGA Classified 780 come with Samsung memory?

But will it come with Samsung memory? I know it was stated once that Samsung memory is now back on these cards but I really have no clue.

Just don't OC the memory. All the performance comes out of the core anyways.

Really, memory OC has a very minimal impact on performance until you hit 4k, it should play a very little role in choosing a card.

Yep thats true, plus what res are you running on your display??

I usually go with EVGA and went never wrong with it!

My very first GTX780 SC (reference design) had a problem and I called EVGA. Amazing service level. No BS talking they sent me right away an UPS shipping letter and I got the new card within 8 days, which is absolutely great! All you have to do is register your card on their side and you are fine.

They even hold the warranty if you damage the card with water cooling. All that they require (so I was told on the phone, cause I asked them about warranty policies) is that the card arrives in one piece and the standard heatsink must be on it.

Elpida Ram aren't that bad. You get the most power out of OC'ing the core and the classified is very good for this since it has 2 8-pin power connectors and a custom pcb.

Especially where the memory probably has a 5GHz effective clock...
