Hi guys,

A friend of mine asked me to help him build a "trading PC".

I don't know much about the kind of load the programs he uses will have, but from what he's saying, a 4 year old i5 laptop he had handled it with no issues.

The PC needs to be able to run 2-3 displays and to be reliable and responsive.

Oh and obviously he wants to spend as little as possible (don't we all ;)).

So to the point then...

Do anybody have any experience with building a system for trading use? if so can he\she share the kind of specs it requires?

Because a 4 year old i5 laptop sounds like an i3 (skylake) or g4560 could do the trick, but I would like to make sure before building.

I would concentrate on reliability, and making sure it has a good network connection. I doubt those programs (webpages?!?) would require alot of CPU horsepower or even GPU power, because it just displayes existing data. It doesn't have to do really big calculations, unless you are using some kind of futuristic AI to do all the stock trading.

I'd say: if the GPU has 3 outputs, it's good enough.

g4560

cheapest random motherboard that supports it

throw in a ssd

use the igpu (there should be 3 outputs, and it should be able to do 3x 1080p)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I never tried to use the igpu before for multiple displays, is it as simple as plugging the monitors each to a different port?

I'd get a dedicated gpu just for sure. As some iGPU can not handle higher resolution very well then a cheapo i3 or G4560 with some good amount of RAM sticks

Hey guys,

sorry for reopening this thread...

I just got an idea, and would like your take on it.

what if i use an AMD APU for the build?

I mean i know the iGPU is much better the the one on Intel chips, and its a quad core (i know its much less powerful but still).

Seems like a good idea to me, then again I'm no expert on APU's, I have a build with the 860k (steam box) so I know the CPU will be enough, but will the iGPU be able to run multiple 1080p displays comfortably?

Thanks!
