So i'm building my parents a new PC as their Gateway PC has almost had it's 10th anniversary xD But I was wandering about how much ram to put into it, I was gonna buy an 8gb kit but then I started thinking, should I get them just 4gb, because the literal most I have ever seen them have open at once was the Antivirus running in the background and like 2 tabs in google chrome

Depends on how much you want to spend. If 8 is in budget grab 8 but you can always start with 4 and upgrade in needed to 8

My own build: RΛZΞR theme

CPU: Intel Core i5 7600K // CPU cooler: Cryorig H7 // Motherboard: MSI Z270 gaming pro carbon //

Video Card: MSI Armor gtx 1070 OC 8GB // RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3200MHz //

SSD: Samsung EVO 960 500GB // HDD: 2x WD yellow edition 2TB //

Case: NZXT H440 RAZER edition // Power Supply: Corsair RM550x //

Operating Software: Windows 10 pro 64-bit

8 is fullproof. 8 will last many years with no issues especially because they aren't doing anything too difficult for the PC

CPU Ryzen 5 3600 -  GPU GeForce GTX 1060 3GB - MOTHERBOARD Asus B550 Plus - - HARD DRIVE WD Blue 1TB - MEMORY Corsair 16GB DDR4

8GB would be better.

It has always been 8GB for the best case usage. You can get Single 8GB sticks for pretty cheap. Only about like 10$ more. It's worth it just for the sake of just in case. You don't always need it, but when you do. It pretty awesome to have just to prevent freezing up.
