So after hopping back and forth trying to decide to take the plunge into custom cooling, i have officially decided to do it. Ive built like 5 or 6 systems so I believe i am ready. I have a few questions. So I know I am not going to cool my gpu right away because my evga sc gtx 1070 is plenty cool and quiet as is. I just need suggestions as to what rez size, where to mount it, what brand of parts, and where to purchase them. I have a phanteks p400s tempered case.  I have heard that aquatuning is better than performance pcs price wise, but other than aquatunings free shipping over 250, their prices seem almost the same. How are ebay, amazon, and newegg for watercooling parts?  I also need guidance as to what brand you guys recommend. EK seems to be the most expensive. I have heard pretty good things about alphacool. How are bitspower and aquacomputer and primochill? I am leaning towards alphacool for the block and rez and rad and primo for the tubing. Def going with mayhem coolant though. Also, what miscellaneous parts do i need? I know I need

Pump and rez

6 fittings

Rad

3 fans

Cpu block

tubing

coolant

couldnt help but read your bio, you should 100 percent get an ssd. Makes day to day use much much quicker. Way moreso than a nice cpu or gpu ever would. Easily 3x as fast as a system without

Oh I know, I have one in my laptop and it's awesome. It'll probably be the next upgrade I do once I have the money.

Get a room you guys! ;)

For loop, start here... https://www.ekwb.com/custom-loop-configurator/ it will given you the basics

EK aren't the most expensive, but they are one of the best, you can't really go wrong with them. Bitspower are far more costly. Don't try and cheap out too much. You won't find an Alphacool build saves you a lot anyway really, but they would be a fine brand to go with, doesn't really matter. Ideally stick with the same brand for tubing and fittings to ensure compatibility (some don't quite fit together, some do, but just go with the same to avoid hassle), and if possible get all your parts in the same place for simplicity and from a reputable retailer. I would stay away from eBay unless the seller has cast iron 100% feedback. Res size doesn't matter, and where you mount it also doesn't matter too much, providing it's above the pump and not upside down lol!

Personally, having been there and done it with a CPU only loop, I wouldn't recommend it necessarily. My issue was always with the GPU, which invariably ends up being the noisiest component. Yes it's quiet now, but it won't be when you're done, simply by virtue of everything else being so quiet, so you MAY regret it. If you do include it in the loop, you'll need to factor in rad space for that. A single 280 would be fine for a CPU, but you would need more if you had the GPU included.

Ok to answer some of your questions. I'll start off with were to buy I recommend either performance pcs or Newegg as long as you are careful when buying from market place selllers I was recently checking prices on mayhems pastel fluid one seller is around 20 dollars per bottle over priced. As for brands I use alphacool, bitspower, and primo chill Xspc is also good barrow makes good fittings although they are kinda pricey last time I checked. And as you stated EK is always a good choice. If you have any other questions feel free to ask you can always msg me and I'll try to help

i will add a gpu and additional rad to the build eventually. Only other question I have is how to mount a pump and rez in the p400s case I have

If you have a rad up front, you could mount it to that easily with a bracket.

Given this is your first build, I would go with a combined res/pump such as the EK Xres Revo D5. Trust me, it will make things much easier, and it's still an excellent unit. You would then need one of these brackets if connecting to a 140mm rad/fan in the front. Personally, having used those fans myself I found them to have an unpleasant noise. They perform well, but if noise is a concern I would suggest you look at the BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 fans.
