What kind of RAM configuration?

I'm planning a sort of "console killer" as an HTPC and I'm not sure whether I should get 2 4GB sticks or 1 8GB stick. Is there any difference at all?

 

I don't plan on upgrading from 8GB because I have a specific budget goal I would like the system to be maintained at as a symbolic gesture on the project.

I ran some test on 2x4 compared to 1x8 and the 2x4 was around 3% faster
