All of my friends are switching over to PC gaming so naturally I am going to as well. I'm building a new PC to last and am conflicted on the CPU. I'm going with an rx480 to go along with my freesync monitor, 16gb of ram, 250g ssd and a 1tb hhd. I was thinking of waiting for the r5's to come out because the 1400x looked interesting or just going with a 6700k. The reason I feel like getting a 6700k now is because my friends already built their PCs and I found a 6700k for $285 which is normally what, $320+? I also found an i5 7600k for $233 but fear the lack of hyperthreading will limit its sustainability over time.

Yeah, Micro center is apparently doing a lot of sales on CPU's including $50 off the 1700X

Its a great time to be buying an i7 as well, sometimes as cheap as cyber monday

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

the i7 6700k will most likely outperform the 4c/8t variant of the ryzen cpu across the board so if you can afford the 6700k then i would go for it. otherwise unless you are getting the 6 core variant or if you really need to save some money i would go for the 6700k especially if you only plan on gaming.

with that $50 off at micro center its only a $20 difference.  That's worth it for a higher OC ceiling and resale value in my books

from what I've heard all them oc about the same. some of the reviews even showed the r7 1700 hitting higher ocs than the 1800x and the 1700x so thats an invalid point. also the 1700 comes with a cpu cooler while the 1700x does not.

Checkmate I guess.  I've got a 6700K and I'd say go for it.

I was thinking that but on their website, it says it is in-store only and the closest Microcenter is 2hrs away and in Boston. I refuse to drive through Boston traffic for a CPU and the gas and tolls will probably cost the difference to get it lol
