Need help with third-part themes...

*third-party

As you've probably already seen, LTT just uploaded their Windows 9 video. When they were talking about "Windows 9.5" I remembered about third-party themes.

I remember reading a How-To Geek article about Fully dark Windows 10.

I have UXStyle installed by the way.

My issue here, is I'm trying to find a theme that I want that isn't malicious.

Here's what I just tried to do:

I saw a theme that I thought looked awesome.

Here's the DevianArt link (not at the malicious part yet, DeviantArt is safe): http://cleodesktop.deviantart.com/art/After-Dark-Cyan-and-Green-Theme-For-Windows-10-579076906

The download in the DeviantArt page is a download for a zip file that contains the link to download it on the users own website...

I go there, It's fine.

Then it has the link to download it at MediaFire

I click it

It downloads just fine.

The MediaFire page redirects to a page telling me about a recommended Chrome extension...

I know I'm safe from the website, having NoScript on

I delete the file MediaFire downloaded (It looked fine, but I deleted it for sanity)

I restored to a restore point that I had created before downloading it.

I'm safe.

___

I want that theme, but what do I do? Should I just distrust any theme that doesn't allow me to download it directly from DeviantArt?

FYI: It was the cyan one I was going after.

I have had trouble with those cleodesktop themes before, it's such a hassle to download and install that I just ignore his themes now.

This is what I use now:

Penumbra 10 - Windows 10 visual style

Works very well, once you disable the ribbon UI.

There may or may not be a bug with task manger, not sure if that's just me but a bunch of the window is white instead of gray.

NEW PC build: Blank Heaven   minimalist white and black PC     Old S340 build log "White Heaven"        The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log        Project AntiRoll (prototype)        Custom speaker project

Spoiler

Ryzen 3950X | AMD Vega Frontier Edition | ASUS X570 Pro WS | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB | NZXT H500 | Seasonic Prime Fanless TX-700 | Custom loop | Coolermaster SK630 White | Logitech MX Master 2S | Samsung 980 Pro 1TB + 970 Pro 512GB | Samsung 58" 4k TV | Scarlett 2i4 | 2x AT2020

So do you think I should just not download any of Cleodesktop's themes?

How about ones that require downloads through websites other than DeviantArt?

Yeah, cleo does the same download thing on all sites, it's not just devianart. I would just avoid them if possible.

Or maybe try installing them on another computer that you don't care about? So that if you do get a virus from those complicated downloads you can just clean install windows.

I'd rather just not use a theme...

I'm trying to look at more themes on DeviantArt.

Lots of them look really good, but then have one thing that kills it for me.
