So, this is my second desktop, the other one was very budget and I had A LOT of help from a friend picking out the parts and putting it together. I now can build a better pc and this is the first build I've put together, so I was looking for a bit of help to make sure my parts are compatible, and that I'm not doing anything extremely stupid. As far as what I'll be using it for, I want to finally be able to play some games at 4k (Once I've purchased a monitor as well), possibly VR in the future, and coding for my job.

CPU: i7-7700k

This seems more than enough for a gaming pc, I really don't think I need a ryzen cpu or anything like that.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i - v2
I was looking for any all in one that was 240mm for a decent price.

Motherboard: Asus Strix Z270-E
ATX board, whose brand I had seen featured before on LTT. Seems to support my other parts from what I can tell.

Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum (4 x 8gb)
I tried to see what my computer was currently using, and I seem to hover at about 15 a lot of the time, so I figured I would need 32 soon enough. I know I could get cheaper, but I really like how it looks with the rest of the parts being black with silver highlights.

M.2: Samsung 960 pro 512gb
I really wanted a M.2 with this system, but felt that the SSD on my old system was too small so I went with the 512gb. This one is pretty expensive because of the 512mb cache. Would I be better suited going with the same size but smaller cache for a lower price?

HDD: 3.5" 2TB 7200RPM
This is fine I think.

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked ACX 3.0
It was featured on LTT the other day, and from looking around seems pretty solid. I don't really think I need the new 1080TI.

PSU: Silverstone 600w 80+ gold SFX
Needed the SFX to fit into the Lian Li case. Calculated an absolute worst case scenario of 470w, which is just below 80% of the PSU.

Case: Lian-Li PC-O10
I absolutely adore this, I could not be convinced to change it I think.

Fans: Noctua
I was thinking 2 in the bottom, and one in the back? I could put one extra in the back, but since there's already the radiator on top, I figured it would be fine.

Is there anything else I need? I do have a license for Windows 10 that I can move from my previous computer.

If it matters, I may also put in 1 or 2 LED strips to provide better lighting to see internals.

The o/s will always use as much memory as it can. That does not mean that one needs additional memory. I won't go into an involved explanation of Windows memory management, suffice to say that one should judge the need for more memory based on performance degradation, not on o/s reported usage.

You might consider getting a 2x16GB memory kit. This will leave two slots free for upgrading.  G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 MemoryCorsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory, or  G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory would be candidates. If budget is not a concern, you might consider something like  G.Skill TridentZ Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory which has excellent timings.

There is a performance difference between the 960 EVO and Pro ssd. But that difference likely would only be noticeable in storage-i/o intensive work loads. I expect the performance difference in a gaming system would not be noticeable.

The Seagate ST2000DM001 drive does not have a great reputation. I believe the  ST2000DM006 does not have the same issues. Or, you might consider a 2TB WD Blue.

The Lian-Li case is beautiful.

Thanks for the suggestions! I incorporated them in.

Sale on the Lian Li PSU, and since I was cutting it close and it was only a tiny bit more, I switched that out. Could still need a vote of confidence from someone on the GPU, a little bit nervous about it.

Edit: also if the 1080ti is only about 700, I feel like 200 more is worth it considering the difference.

I've been doing a bit of tinkering, my major question, is that if I go for the Asus Strix 1080 ti, does my PSU have the correct connectors to support the two 8 pin connectors needed? I'm fairly certain it does but just wanted to be sure. Also why are two of the 8 pins on the back of the PSU blue?

The two blue connectors match the blue ends of the two PCIe power (gpu) cables. Each of those cables has two 6+2-pin connectors. Total 4 x 6+2 (8) pin PCIe power connectors.

The black 8-pin connector on the psu is for the EPS/ATX 12V 4+4-pin motherboard.power cable.

I built this pc yesterday! It has everything except the 1080ti which I'm waiting to order the EVGA SC2, as the height of the card will fit into the system, which seems to be the limiting factor for most high end graphics cards fitting into my case. Currently using my MSI R9 270x in the meantime.

I may post pictures soon, I'm waiting on getting the card and possibly some LED strips as some parts of the case are hard to see through. I am trying to keep the LED strips to a minimum though. Also bouncing the idea around of replacing the radiator fans with the ML120 pro. In addition, I may even add 2 intake 120mm fans so that it doesn't have quite as much negative pressure (I don't really want to deal with dust). Going to wait on overclocking the cpu until I've decided on my final fan setup.
