Hello guys I'm new on this website

I want to create server to host my website

And because of that I have few questions

Can I create a server using my PC or should I buy a server motherboard etc.

And if so what's the cheapest components I could buy

What software I should use?

How much HDD/ssd do I need?

And if you have any helpful information/tips please share it with me:)

If you want a server to simply host a website, consider simply getting a VM with a provider like AWS,  no need to build your own unless you really want too.

It is rear these days for people to host their own websites on their own servers.  Too much hassle.  Even as the business level, most out source the problem to GoDaddy or similar if its small, or spin up a few VM's with AWS etc.

But for godaddy and similar I would need to pay for each website that's way I was thinking to make server

Go with a VM in that case.  I only use GoDaddy for the business stuff, so security is their problem, so I do not have to deal with it.  For my personal stuff I just use a cheap VM with rackspace,  Everyone is jumping ship from rackspace though and going to AWS.  Plenty of other options out there as well, I have boxes with rackspace, softlayer and AWS.   All linux though.

Really comes down to what your requirements are.

I use Servarica....its a bit more than godaddy, but they seem to have better plans and for me latency from my home connection

AWS has cost issues, since it could be really cheap, or ridiculously expensive

if you are looking for hosting basic sites, I'd suggest going with Centos and CPanel, instead of configuring IIS or Apache by itself

If you just want to host a website there is no point to have a server.
Noadays you can get a hosting plan for less than 5$ a month and that will always be cheaper than anything you can build or host yourself.

AWS is Amazon Web Services

VM is Virtual Machine.

Do your research well first before starting to spend money. Try to setup a website on your own laptop/desktop so you see how it works.

Ralms.
