1060 would be a much bigger gaming upgrade. However I would wait for the new amd gpu's to launch before making my decision on which gpu.

I am going to be upgrading soon. I was going to go for a 1060 6gb but people told me to get a i5 4690k processor instead. Do you guys think that is the right move for a $250 upgrade budget.

might wanna edit your post there, i(and probably some others) can't see what you're typing

I just posted the way I would typically post in any forum. Is there a formatting issue or something. I noticed that the text was blacked out. I didn't really understand why though.

i would recommend you get a cheaper rx 480 8gb since they perform the same now, sell off the gtx 750ti and see if you can get something like an i5 44xx. that way you get the best of both worlds.

From watching other people's tests it seems the 480 is more future proof, but overall the 1060 outperforms. Why do you say it is better? I also like to play arma, and AMD's single core processing has always lagged what seems to be years behind intel.

That is an excellent idea, but it is very hard to sell a GPU in alabama XD. I will definitely try to sell it though.

does your H81 chipset mobo even support overclocking? and with just a 4pin power connecter it wouldnt really allow you to give it the power it needs

edit: derp it does have a 8pin.

WTF does AMD's CPUs have to do with this discussion lol

480s are cheaper, getting faster over time, and have more VRAM. Why would you NOT want the more futureproof card?

My bad lmao, I was in two conversation at once and mixed the two up. The only reason I wouldn't future proof is because the 1060 outperforms the 480, and I never plan on running two of them side by side, so by the time I get ready to get something new, I will just replace it.

the 1060 doesn't outperform the 480 anymore, now they're dead even.

The video you showed is still showing the gtx 1060 6gb in almost every game. They are close but on average you are looking at a 6-10 fps jump between the two cards.

skip to the 20 game averages, it shows that they're pretty much the same with the 480 8gb being 1fps better which is pretty much margin of error.

same result as the gtx 970 video

1060 was only 2% better than the 480 8gb.

I see, you were looking at the average of averages. I can see that either way is not bad to go, but I would have $10 more to spend on an afterstock cooler if I went for the rx480, hopefully its in stock. Last I checked it was out of stock everywhere, but that was a while back. I think going that route is a good bet.

currently not much of a shortage for rx 480s. the stock cooler should be good enough, save it for a used i5 44xx instead.

Will do. The only reason I wanted another cooler is because the stock cooler that came with my i3 has recently started getting pretty loud (even after I cleaned it). So I was considering actually buying a cooler this time around, but realistically that fan is like 9 mo old.

ahh, i see. well intel's fans are pretty mediocre. any cheap aftermarket cooler should do but if you want something stronger the cryorig m9i, raijintek aidos black and coolermaster hyper 212+ are $20 and perform the same.

Yeah, I was looking at the 212 just until I was able to get a decent mid-range CPU and GPU. Then I was going to spring for the $100 water cooled H100i.
