Can I put a standard ssd in my laptop?

I want to breathe some new life into my laptop. Can I buy a standard ssd and place it in my laptop? If it helps I have a 2009 sony vaio laptop.

You can always open up the back and see if a hard drive is in there. It looks thick enough to where I would believe it would be standard.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

As long as you have access to the dive and the ability to clone the drive then yes you can.

I went for Lubuntu. still not sure if I should go for just the normal ubuntu or not. It said it was better for older hardware so I thought I would give it a shot.

I have not used that distro but as long as it is light weight you should be fine.

Its beyond lightweight. I love how fast it runs. If you have a laptop that you think is slow and you have tried a fresh install of windows. Try Lubuntu. It's a lighter version of Ubuntu that works very well.
