I need some opinions of the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop's. I am considering buying one, while Linus' review was nice and all, it just didn't give me all the detail I needed.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

What detail would you like?

Basically, would it be a good choice for that price range or is there something better out there.

well for that cheap you cant get a better gaming laptop. now if you dont want a gaming laptop or if you can spend more you can find better options but that's all dependent on you.

General use, no extremely high end titles, and some basic rendering work such as CAD and CAM, although heavy game modding will be a part of its use.

I say extremely high end titles but it may be used for games such as doom, fallout 4 and Dying Light.

Then it could be a nice addition for the price. I would go for it if I were you. It really doesn't get too hot for a laptop. And it really isn't over the top with appearance. You should keep a mouse round. The SSD can help, but if you need more than 256GB, then you should get a higher tier version, or just put in a HDD. The full USB ports are a nice edition to laptops today. A TN display is really not that bad, but if you want good color reproduction, plug in another monitor. Overall, not bad for the price.

Yeah the Inspiron 7000 (7567, 1050/1050Ti) model has a horrible-quality TN panel, so I generally don't recommend it (unless you're into LCD swapping)

The N850HK1 is a great option for this price. GTX 1050 Ti and a great display for $899.

1080p model, that is. Be aware that the 4K model uses a PenTile not-true-4K display, and if you wanted 4K then I would go with the Inspiron 7567 (4K model) since it uses a true 4K display.
