why is windows installing?

I am currently trying to install windows 10 onto a laptop which has had win 8 installed onto it. when I type in a valid product code (it's definitely valid) it doesn't work and when I try and do it without product key it says can't "Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software Licence terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation" I have not got to the point where I am choosing what disk to install onto at this point and the USB stick I'm installing from was made properly, what the hell is happening here?

Where did you get the ISO?

What key are you trying to use? Did you buy a new windows 10 copy?

I got the installation file from the "media creation tool" from windows, I put it on a USB, which it's detecting, a key I have. and no

So that is out of the question, have you tried putting it on the usb with a external program like Rufus?

But what key? The windows 8 key?

You know you can't use 7 or 8 keys anymore right?

it's a win 10 key, and normally you can install without one and activate at a later date, which' it is not letting me do

you can normally you don't need it as you install it without one then you activate it at a later date sorta thing/ activate it after, but it anit even doing that

So there  is no "do this later" button at the bottom when it asks you for your key?

Are you sure you used the tool you download from the microsoft website?

the "I don't have a product key" button then which does what I say it does, I have done it that way before, give me a second and I can take a photo for me. and yes I definitely did

You need to download this tool, then remake your usb and try installing again.

Well try it again, and try a different usb.

Also maybe check that you're connected to the internet?
