Asus strix gtx 1080 one fan spinning on idle

crxcify

My newly bought asus strix 1080 (installed 3 days ago) had one fan spinning on idle, it was the left fan. I know that under a certain temps the fans should stop spinning but why did this one fan not stop? I opened fallout 4 and went somewhere intensive and all 3 fans started spinning up at 53 degrees, quit the game after I saw all fans are working and then after I quit all the fans stopped because the temps werent high enough for the fans to go off,

Now randomly when I check my pc one fan will be spinning for no reason at idle, I can't replicate this event, it just happens randomly, I had heard of a lot of 1000 series cards doing this and people were saying it's a bios thing, any ideas?

I believe it tries to keep the GPU at a constant temperature. I might be wrong, and it could be an issue with the BIOS, as BIOS is responsible for this if I'm not mistaken (BIOS in the GPU).

I'd ask ASUS directly via chat about this.

My 980gtx ti at idle spins 1 or 2 fans depending on the ambient temperature but not for long just remember the ambient temperature can affect the whole unit as well.

after running lords of the fallen for about 5 mins I closed the game check my fans 2 mins later and now 2 fans are spinning, perhaps you are correct, fans go on their own accord depending on the temps

aaand, all fans just stopped spinning right after I posted that, it's weird I haven't seem asus say anything about this with the fans. performance and temps are completely normal while gaming and at idle as well.

it's amazing, haven't had a game make me dip below 100 fps yet on max settings.
