So since the launch of the 800 series GPUs I've seen countless articles asking this question, but no real clear cut answer with any actual tests done from what I can tell. Mostly due to the lack of available horsepower in the GPUs tested, like a 4GB 960M like I have vs the 2GB model... I haven't seen much of a difference. :P But maybe I'm just blind.

So is there a real performance difference between the 2 and 4GB models of the 1050? I see so many lower end clevo laptops I can potentially recommend friends, but I fail to see the point if there's a larger gap in performance than is readily revealed. For casual gamers is 2GB enough for 1080p? Is it worth going out of your way for 4GB?

I ask this second question because I don't want a typical "it's for future proofing" answer we hear too often. Does it actually make a difference? Does anyone here have a 2GB 960M to see if we can really hammer this down?

There is no performance difference as long as memory usage stays below 2GB. If the application needs more, you're going to have a bad time. This is why it is suggested to get the model with more memory.

For mainstream games, that do not consume much resources (Portal 2, CSGO maybe) you might be fine with 2GB (not completely sure). If you play any triple-A games, you will want 4GB, just to be on the safe side.

EDIT: For 1080p, you definitely want to go 4GB.

See 2GB 1050 desktop vs 4GB 1050Ti desktop.

10502GB gets bottlenecked by the VRAM limit in a lot of 1080p

The Ti model is also about 35% faster too just on that note. o_o I mean between like-cards. Can anyone actually show images or a video showcasing the difference?

No, it's not just the speed difference, it's obviously (especially in DOOM) that the 2GB card is bottlenecked by the VRAM. 90 FPS vs 30 FPS with pop-ins..

idk

Is there a video or something out there? No really I'm asking for help here.

And I love how everyone says CS:GO is a casual players game... As is LoL right? The two biggest communities out there? :P

Alrighty then. So there IS a point to a 4GB 960M. o_o Least I know I made a good decision. ^^;
