I currently run my Strix 480 on one of these ultrawide monitors with freesync. It's a great match. My monitor is overclocked to 80Hz and I set my freesync range to 35-80.  I had the chance to run Crossfire on it for a few days, but honestly it wasn't worth it (it looked beautiful, though). I tried it on GTA V, Far Cry 4 and The Witcher 3. The first two games ran great, but they already ran at around 80fps on a single 480, so there was no point on having the second card. The Witcher 3 really needed the extra performance to reach 80fps at ultra settings, and while the second card had about 80% scaling, the game was really stuttery. Frame timing was horrible and no amount of tweaking the settings would fix it. I ended up returning the second card and I'll get a Vega card when it comes out.

Can I ask what load temps are like? And is fan noise noticeable?

Sapphire is faster though, this is my issue.

You won't even notice the 10 Mhz... Not even 1 FPS difference. Anyway, you can prob OC the Strix that much without touching anything else or just tickling the voltage.
Just go for whichever one is cheaper or better looking, depending on how much you care about aesthetics.

The Strix is £2 cheaper and has better cooling, guess I'll get that and oc it! :)

I found a strix for £238 with the free Doom offer, I'm only doing 1080p so I reckon that would be better value.

I'm looking to buy an RX480 (1060 fanboys you have no place here) and am stuck between the Asus Strix oc and the Sapphire Nitro+. Both have very similar clock speeds with 1330 and 1342 respectively, and both are quite good looking (Although I prefer the Sapphire looks wise). The things I'm most interested in are fan noise, temperatures and actual performance in games. Does anyone have any idea which I should get?

I got a strix oc 480, without going in to adjust anything it runs basically silent at default. You can easily push the core to the same ghz and not have to adjust any fan curves. I think it's the best looking 480, but that's just personal opinion.

During the Heaven benchmark I get around 67-69C with the fan at 80%. During The Witcher 3 I get 68-72C depending on the region of the game, again with the fan at 80%. These are peak temperatures after at least half an hour of playing. Note that I'm overvolting the card quite substantially to get a stable 1430Mhz, so the temperatures can get quite high if I lower the fan speeds. The fans are definitely noticeable at speeds higher than 60% if you don't have headphones on, but it doesn't bother me since I usually use headphones.
