So recently I've bought a new SSD (HyperX Predator 240GB) for my PC, and now I want to put my OS and other stuff there for the *extreme speed*. But I realized that my hdd contains a lot of junk stuffs that I want to delete. Question is: how can I format my HDD (which actually has the OS)? And I don't want to transfer data from HDD to SSD, just do a big clean of everything.

use windows recovery, install windows again and when it says install windows ... there is a small option in the corner that says recover my pc

This is how I would go about it. I would plug in the SSD along with some bootable media (i.e. CD, bootable Thumb Drive, etc.) that you are going to use to install windows, I would wipe that drive, install the OS on the SSD. I would, from windows, format the E:/ drive. Easiest way imo.

I would just do a fresh installation honestly. it doesn't take long and it's clutter free.

either hes got an OS for fresh install or he is gonna have to copy some data...

whats wrong with transferring files anyway

If he has windows 10, then he could just create a bootable image on windows. No need to transfer data at all :) Faster and pain-free. There can be errors occasionally when transferring files

I agree , its just that installing an OS is ok time wise but all your progs(anti virus, torrent, smp, cleaners,) those little apps etc registering can take just as long.....sometimes I just clone it

It's not a bad idea to d/l the latest version anyway. keeps unused/seldom used programs out of the load order.

my recommendation is keep a full basic backup with all your fav progs n apps on a secondary drive...

this has saved my bacon more than once
