1080Ti Founders Edition worth it?

Is the normal Foundes edition worth it?

 

Or should I wait until after markets like Asus , Gigabyte, EVGA.. and so on?

 

Will the aftermarkets arrive March 10th as well or is it only founders edition that will be available?

Wait for the AIB cards.

Personally, I'm waiting for the EVGA FTW card or ASUS STRIX. Unless you are going to do SLI, o wouldn't go founders edition.

Why? New to SLI

If you plan to watercool a FE makes sense. Otherwise, just go for an AIB partner card.

The founders edition's cooling layout tends to push the hot air through the back of the card. So, doing SLI with these cards would be ideal as the second card will still be cooled adequately. Aftermarket cards tend to push the hot air throughout the case, and away from the card. Doing an SLI of aftermarket cards will cause one of the cards to be hotter than the other, as the hot air from the bottom card is pushed into the airflow for the top card.

Founders Edition cards, by their very nature, use the reference PCB. Many custom cards use the reference PCB. When water blocks are made for the 1080 TI the first ones will be for the reference PCB. Some (most, actually) custom PCB's will never have a water block made. So if you intend to water cool, you are going to want an FE card or a custom card that uses the reference PCB.

 

Founders Edition cards use what is called a blower air cooler whereas most custom cards use an open air cooler. Blowers have more fan noise. Except for a few oddball situations, blowers are not as effective as open air coolers and the card will run hotter (reducing performance).

 

 

 

So, if you intend to water cool your graphics card, Founders Edition is a good choice.

 

If you intend to run multiple air cooled gfx cards with air space between the cards measured in angstroms (why you aren't water cooling is beyond me in this situation), blower cooling (Founders Edition) is a good choice.

 

If you are doing a custom build in one of those microscopic cases that are smaller than a wallet, there is a very good chance that the air circulation will be so bad that a blower style cooler will be more effective.

 

If you are one of those people that absolutely must be the first person on the block to have the latest toy, then a Founders Edition will most likely be your only option.

 

If you are a normal human being, custom cards are usually the best.
