Oh, understood. I think that it should be fine, but I would recommend going to here "https://pcpartpicker.com/" to make sure. The website lets you make a build/edit a build, and it should be able to tell you if the mATX motherboard fits properly into the Phanteks Eclipse P400 case you are looking to use.

Okay thank you for helping sorry if i didn't help you

If the 1070 doesn't drop there's no point when you could just buy a 1080 for 40$ more.

1080 is dropping to $499 ...

1060 gets a 1060ti (sort of lol) along with 1080 getting new GDDR5X. I haven't seen anything reference 1070 price drops other than assumptions

Okay, I might've mixed up the 1070 and 1080 prices. but anyway the 1070 will probably be lower than what it's at right now most likely so its better to wait.

Ya anything you plan today will be 100% irrelevant by then as Ryzen 3 and 5 should be out

Would you recommend I not purchase the i5 6600K and paired motherboard? Is overclocking something I should do at a later time?

It's more that Ryzen will be far better for the money, minimum 4 cores / 8 threads for the same price as that i5

For the monitor, the best one to get is this Pixio 1440p 144hz IPS free-sync display at just under $400, course to use free-sync you'd want the 8gb 480

Ya I'd totally drop to a 480 to get the R7 1700 in 2 days or so, double the cores, and 16 threads

So you already have a display? and it's only 1080p 60hz?

No need for 8 cores 16 threads. Even if he wants to do content creation a Ryzen 1600x will be just fine.

Not nearly as nice for gaming since it isn't 144hz

If you were going to stick to 60hz you could go 27" 4k, although that's a bit small for productivity

I'm just using this set up for gaming as it currently stands. Maybe I'd do some light content creation (my buddy has a YouTube channel, and it could be nice to add a second screen from my perspective on the rare occasions I help him, depending on what we were doing), but nothing crazy. I don't do graphic design or editing or anything like that.

Nvidia already announced It I believe, will drop the 1070 to $350, and the whole line up gets refreshed slightly faster memory, or at least the 1060s do

But that means waiting a few months for a $20 price drop? Unless he is waiting for other reasons. Besides the 1080ti, the 1060 is the only one getting a slight refresh. Unless they are waiting to announce it, the 1070 - besides price- is staying the same. Then again, with sales or rebates he can probably get close to that price now.

*edit* nvm I was looking at the wrong card lol. First part still stands.
