Hello all, I'm now searching to swap my old laptop for something around 1000-1400 canadian dollar (which is around 1 USD = 1.35 CAD) So I wonder what i could buy. I've searched a little bit and I was wondering if a 960m is still something enough good for gaming.

I don't play really big games (LeagueOfLegends, Minecraft, GTA V, Warthunder).

Here is some models I found and I don't really know if you guys find something better or i got somehting cool.

If you have any other laptops around 1000-1400 CANADIAN DOLLAR I would happy to check them out.

Thanks.

Find a laptop with a 1050 in it. Should be around the same price point as the GTX 1050 laptop variant replaces the 960M and has around 25% increases in performance. Don't go last generation GPUs in terms of laptops, the new ones from nVidia are amazing and with the fact that you have the opportunity to purchase laptops with the new GPUs, you should do so. Don't compromise with the 960M when the 1050 is in the same price range yet has a substantial amount of gains in terms of performance.

So I should go with the 1050TI I found ?

The 1050ti is faster than a 960M.

I'm not Canadian so I can't help you with pricing, but here are my suggestions.

XPS 15 with the 1050-great combination of battery life, aesthetics, and performance.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming-good deal for the internals.

Alienware 13 R3 or 15 R3-best build quality of bunch.  Be aware of core temp differentials, if the core temps are too different then send it back.  Otherwise best laptop I have ever used( I have the 15 R3).

The battery life is pretty mediocre at about just under 4 hours if you're browsing the internet. Sure, you may be at a school and plugs may be a round, but ideally, you don't want to be dependent on it.

Interesting. The viewing angles of that panel look a lot better than most other TN panels. This laptop that reports the same panel model number has a display with the same high gamut but very poor viewing angles.

Maybe ChiMei started finally including the WVA films in some of their 15.6" 1080p TN panels again?

I may have to do some research and re-evaluate my non-recommending of this model.

EDIT: Well... the contrast still isn't ideal and the PWM flickering thing isn't great.
