They are the exact same as far as purpose. The rest is looks, ease of use and a lot of cases no longer have 5.25 bays.

Personally I wouldn't take a bay res, that's just my preference. I think it really dictates the look of your build and position of your pump

I currently have a bay res, since my Define R5 has the space for it.  It works well, but can a pain in terms of filling the damn thing.  But it can be useful if you don't have enough space for a tube res. What case do you currently have and do you have alot of drives in your system?

CPU: 5900X   MOBO: MSI Tomahawk x570 
MEM: G.Skill 32gb (2 x 16gb) 3600
GPU: Asus tuf oc 3080

Visually a cylinder res will look better, one of the main reasons I don't recommend Bay units are due to noise and vibration as they readily transfer it to the case more so than a cylinder res where many have foam backing to help dampen things.
