I'm looking to build a pc that can both create and render 3D models aaaand game at 1440p at nice frames. I'm currently looking at 2 Xeon processors but does anyone have something to suggest? I know this is under CPUs but I'd also appreciate any GPU advice too. Thanks.

Budget and location? is this a total build? Do you need case, windows? KB + Mouse? Do you have the 1440P monitor?

I don't advise dual Xeon, windows get's expensive for that, just use an i7, either LGA 1151 for moderate work and LGA 2011-3 for pretty heavy work. A GTX 1080 would be a good match.

I wouldnt advise a chip just yet, especially in the i7 range with R7 stuff inc in 2 - 3 days

What budget/country and what's your display set up?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Max is 10,000USD and I want it to run a triple monitor setup each at 1440p. I forgot the model of the case I really like but I'all follow up on that and tell you the exact model. Windows pro but planning to run a vm for hackintosh. KB and mouse I'm fine, I have my sights set on a couple models but I'd like your opinions.  The upcoming daskeyboard cloud Kb and one of those Logitech wireless gaming mice.

Yeah, but Ryzen is still an unknown, but for moderate work and i7 7700 is still better, it's superior per core performance and main-streamness mean it's still an option, and X99 does have quad channel memory, which might be important, OP really hasn't given us much to work with.

wait for ryzen benchmarks than decide, sounds like 8 core cpu is what you need.

What's the problem with 2 Xeons Nicoll?

It massively depends on the workload, do you need ECC support and more cores over clock speed? But something long this line if you really want dual Xeon, but Zen will have multi socket server versions, which for 32 core chips might be as low as $4,000 each.

I didn't add a case be cause that's just an example. There is a lot more you could tweak, and that shows mid range between core vs clock Xeons.

Oh wow didn't know the Zens would have that option, I'll look into it, thanks for your help, all of you. Do you think dual 1080s can 3D render or should I go for a pro gpu?

The server version is rumoured to be released sometime after the consumer one, and the GTX 1080's are more than enough for rendering, they don't have as much validation as quadro cards, if validation and GDDR5X ECC is that important to you, consider the Quadro P5000 in SLI, but that will be around 3 times the price, so unless this PC makes you a lot of money and you want it to be validated and such, it isn't worth it, but the performance is basically* the same.

Then just get whatever probably

Although you should really get 3 40" 4k displays instead of 1440p displays

I agree, but OP wants multithread, and considering (rumours/hype) the X1800 is killing a 6900k for 1/2 the price, it seems a no brainer. I guess we also need to know how much gaming vs rendering, I cant advise about server stuff cause I don't have any experience lol

I generally work with mostly rack servers, so I can't say I know much about the kinda 50/50 server desktop stuff, generally for a rack server, only one or two parts work, and you just ring HP/Dell/IBM/Lenovo up and bark the number and your debit card, cry and wait a week.
