4K Editing Build

Go to solution Solved by MrPaulDavidson,

Think I'm going to go with the Ryzen. Here's the new specs:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X
  • Motherboard: Asus Prime B350-Plus
  • RAM: 16GB HyperX Savage DDR4 2666MHz (2x8GB)
  • Graphics Card: 8GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080
  • Hard Drive 1: 250GB Samsung SSD
  • Hard Drive 2: 4TB WD Black

Hello all,

I'm new to the LTT forums but have been watching the channel for a few months. I'm a filmmaker and looking to build a new editing PC to handle 4K video as more and more clients are looking for this.

Budget: Under £2400

Location: Scotland, UK

Aim: 4K video editing and some motion graphics work

Monitors: Currently one but up to three in the future

Peripherals: Not needed. Will be running Windows 10.

Why am I upgrading?: Current PC is struggling to edit 1080p video and in desperate need of an update

I'm looking at getting the following:

  • Processor: Intel i7 Six Core i7-6850K (3.6GHz, 15MB Cache)
  • Motherboard: Asus X99-A II
  • RAM: 16GB HyperX Savage DDR4 2666MHz (4x4GB)
  • Graphics Card: 8GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080
  • Hard Drive 1: 250GB Samsung SSD
  • Hard Drive 2: 4TB WD Black

And of course some RGB lighting.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Paul

I've heard bad things about AMD for video use though. Not too sure about using them again? I'm using one in my current PC.

Video use? You are probably thinking about the old cpus. Wait on Ryzen man.

you've probably heard about the old AMD processors. The new ones are a whole new processor lineup and are over 50% better than the last ones.

Ryzen releases on March 2nd so it would be worth waiting a few extra days for some impartial reviews. From what we have seen on paper Ryzen is looking pretty good when compared to X99 cpu's.
