Custom backplate

Hi,

I have this graphics card here: http://sapphirenitro.sapphiretech.com/en/rx-470-4.html

I do not have the nitro+ model, whoch has a backplate. I have the nitro model, which does not. I would like to create a backplate for it but I am unsure as to what to make it from or how to mount it. I was originally planning on buying a backplate but I have been unable to find any compatible with my exact model.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Dan

They don't make a commercial backplate for those, but you can make a custom one and use stand offs and longer screws to install it onto the card. A good option for making custom backplates would be to use acrylic, there are a few places like Cold Zero that specialize in this type of work.

Check out V1Tech.com, they make custom backplates for basically any GPU model!

Keep calm and

I have contacted Coldzero about it because they do not list my card under RX 470 but I wonder if this is because there is a chance it uses a reference PCB?

I used acrylic and double sided foam pads for mounting it.

Was it difficult to make? I have a place where I can spray paint stuff and a can of black spray paint but I would have to order some acrylic and foam pads from amazon I think. I am reasonably skilled at basic spray painting and similar stuff.

Thanks,

Dan

You can get colored acrylic if you don't want to paint it all your would need to do is layout the mounting holes if your bolting it and cut to size.

Nah, it was pretty quick to cut, sand and paint.

It was cut and sanded in 30 minutes, then the paint was dry within 48h (had 4 layers if I remember correctly).

Since the GPUs sit with their back facing up, it doesn't need solid mounting, so foam pads worked for me.

Ok. I will probably use double sided tape because I can see no holes on the PCB that aren't being used to attach the cooler. I might consider buying some white acrylic and spray painting a decal or something. Thanks for the idea.

Ok. Thank you for your help with this. When I make it I will post it on the forums.

Cool. I might do. I live in the UK so it might be a good idea to get a UK based company. Will have a look

Nice. You should be able to make something pretty cool. I was considering getting a 3D printer and 3D printing one but its about £130 plus filament for a kit and I don't know how much I would use it. I would recommend looking into smoothing it with acetone or something similar to make it look a bit more finished.
