My cpu fan is somewhat loud. I have a stock cooler and currently no programs monitoring the temps of it, but I have played with MSI afterburner a little bit for GPU info. I'm wondering what programs I can use to lower the minimum speed of my CPU fan since it hardly ever speeds up and I would like it to be quieter. Also what programs you guys use to benchmark (free preferably) and general monitoring/editing stuff would be nice. I'm still pretty new to desktops. Thanks.

You may be able to use Coretemp or something like it to control fan speeds.

What motherboard and cpu do you have?

You should be able to lower the fan speeds through the motherboard settings.

The only thing that is different is that I didn't get the cpu cooler, I am just using the stock one.

What speed are you running the stock cooler at and what are your load temps?

It runs at whatever speed the standard setting is. I haven't changed anything on it since I built it nor have I really monitored temps much. I've hardly ever heard it speed up though, so I imagine it's not too high.
