well... thats litteraly just the super basics. you will need to raise the voltage aswell and you compleatly ignored timeings aswell

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I find that additional things besides the basics are something that people need to actually do a little research on. Like people always want to just throw up the voltage on their CPU for no reason because they see that people say you need to increase voltage to overclock. And then there are the people that say that they want to increase the voltage on their GPU also. But yea, timings etc. just aren't necessary as they don't provide noticeable improvements to the average user and voltage really isn't an issue for rams unless you have one of those lower voltage rams which isn't that often. Nothing I'm saying is set in stone. So correct me if I'm wrong and you can provide him with the additional details.

First and foremost thing you want to do is to NOT raise the voltage. Because voltage is the main contributor to heat in your system.

Overclocking is a matter of guess and check. If your system won't start with an overclock and no change in voltage then your system will either,

1) restart like normal and you need to go back into the bios

2) it won't restart and you simply need to clear CMOS, clearing CMOS will put your BIOS back to default. Meaning you have to do your overclock again since it defaulted everything.

Different for every motherboard, it could be on the IO Shield. The rectangular spot in the back of your case that has all the USB ports, mic, headphone, etc. There should be a black circle or black square that is the Clear CMOS.

If it is not there then it is on the Motherboard itself.

Only the BIOS. None of your other computer settings outside of BIOS are affected. Because it's literally a button made just to clear the BIOS in case you mess up an overclock.

Some motherboards, IDK if this is Windows or motherboard based. I haven't ever tested it. But if it fails to start up 3 times, it will automatically reset.

timings DO matter if you have RAM with crap timings to start of with, if he has decent RAM then sure, dosent matter, but they do provide an improvement in RAM latency, its correct that they wont provide much of a noticable improvement but its still there, raising voltage only gets important when you start to push your RAM to the limits, i tend to overclock untill it cant go further within safe voltage so i would raise the voltage atleast to get a few 100MHz more out of it with lower timings. i just found your turorial quite lacking in information about the other parts mostly.
