Cannot boot from USB drive

Murilo_A

For some reason my DT101 G2 16GB is not working to boot from it. Files don't seen to be corrupting, but I can't boot from it for some reason

Already tried:

Used cmd to make the USB drive bootable and copied the files, PC stays with a underscore blinking

Used Microsoft's official tool to make it bootable, gave me some kind of error saying that it cannot make the USB drive bootable

Used a program to put Ubuntu into the drive, didn't got any errors, but still not booting

Does the motherboard boot order have the USB as priority?

Yes, already formatted this PC from a USB drive and it worked fine, also checked and the USB drive is the 1st boot

Is it an encrypted drive? Kingston makes drives that can't be bootable.

No, always used this drive for installing Windows, never had any problems

use rufus 2.0 to create a bootable pen drive

Already tried 3 solutions that I know that work fine, why would that work differently?

I believe it generates special boot files of some sort.

Also are you creating the drive in a uefi format or legacy?

Legacy

Alright. Just make sure your BIOS is set to legacy mode.

It's a very old system, I don't think it supports UEFI, but I'll double check

alright then, how old is your system? some computers from the win xp era dont support usb boot even if the option is present in bios.

Not sure, it's not mine, but it's probably about 8-10years, but yeah it supports USB boot, on the BIOS I can see the USB drive listed in boot priority, and I already boot from a USB drive in this PC

In that case your usb drive might be damaged/faulty . We have a few of those at work and they work just fine with ubuntu installed on them.

Files aren't getting corrupted or anything like that, only for boot that it isn't working

With the Rufus 2.0, I ran the errors check and it didn't found anything, I got it to boot, but it's painfully slow, 5+ minutes and it still didn't passed the "Windows is loading files..." part
